I have a Spectrum Internet connection rated at Mbps. I am getting slightly more on downloads. Speedtest on my phone is more like 15 Mbps.
Firmware on router is current version. Turn off the sateliites and then connect the phone to the router and try a speed test. Turn back on after testing WWM was diabled. I was using Speedtest on phone to check speed. I recently experience a similar issue. When the speed dropped I connected my computer straight to the modem and did a speed check and diagnosed that the issue was not the router as I suspected. I called up spectrum and for some reason the bandwidth codes were not properly communicating with my modem.
Spectrum flashed my modem and at least for the moment resolved my issue. If you have this issue as a next step you may want to consider factory resetting your modem. Figured I would share just incase it helps someone out there. Spectrum physically came to my property and identified that squirrels had chewed on the line coming into my home. The end cause of the issue was moisture impacting the signal coming into my house. Humidity levels and rain dramatically reduced speeds, the heat of the day would dry out the line and return speeds to normal.
When the technician came and removed the wire water was pouring out like a straw In summary as a last resort have the signal to your modem checked and ensure there is not physical damage to your line before you lose your mind like I did and swap out all your hardware. Download speed isn't working correctly. The tech just left and basically said it was working correctly and that maybe my equipment couldn't handle the speeds and then said you're not supposed to get gigabit speed.
It's supposed to be a gigabit across three or four devices meaning a max per device. What at a joke. Is anyone else seeing consistent slow download speeds and has anyone found a fix?? Go to Solution. So, on the phone with them to get this fixed or service terminated. This is quite common. This could be dependent on your router, your cables, your computer and other peripherals in your use.
I am testing on a Mac mini with a wired connection. Mac mini is literally a foot from the router. Wifi is lower. Same problem. Had tech here and said Verizon was find. WIFI gave him mps down load and he said that is the wifi speed. Showed him speed test on my devices include andriod phone Nexus 6 Motorola gave mps. The desktop ranged from 26mps download to 90mps. Although the upload at times gave mps.
Never got the speeds either wifi or hard wired using CAT 6 cable to a desktop running Windows 7 home. I think I am going to test the line before the router. I have a suspicion it maybe their router. Will have to test before router and at ont box for what's coming in.
This is obviously a problem that no one on verizon's side it acknowledging. It is a real world test not using a proprietary network. All of which you should test. I'm having the same problem, and we can forgo the chatter about "it says UP TO I had a feeling this would happen, but I didn't think I'd see speeds consistently below my previous package.
If this can't be resolved, I'll happily switch to cable.Thank you for taking the time to respond. Was this article helpful? The remaining WiFi bands are used to connect devices to your Orbi system. This is a major issue and nobody will take responsibility. A google search will show the numerous postings about this issue and the lack of response from Microsoft. Obviously not in ballpark of mbps. I can go on phone wifi and get over mbps and other devices are fast on same network. Brand new docsis 3. Xbox is set to highest priority and has a static ip, port forwarding blah blah blah. To pay for gig service only to have xbox throttle back speeds is beyond frustrating.

I started downloading the 50GB Fallout 76 patch last night, along with hundreds of thousands of other users on my side of the country. That amount of traffic, combined with the general amount of traffic that the start of a holiday week may generate, may well contribute to the reduced speed. Here's the thing, though.
You honestly don't need a hyper-fast Xbox Live connection to get good performance. A 10Mbps connection is excellent for multiplayer gaming or streaming video content. Faster is great for game installs and downloads, of course. Thanks for the responses. I completely agree. I generally only see a third of my actual Internet speed reflected on Xbox Live.
Just because you pay for Gig service doesn't mean that you will be able to achieve that speed at all times or on all sites. Some ISP's over subscribe their nodes so if lots of people are online at same time then your available throughput will be lower. If you have node congestion then that's something your ISP will have to address. If you have local router issues eg QOS then that's something you may need to address. At what speed and bandwidth can my Orbi system transmit data?
This is only this one device having problems. Go to Solution. SmartByte, troubleshooting bandwidth issues. View solution in original post. Thank you so much!!!!!! I saw two entries, one for a Smartbyte application, and a second for Smartbyte drivers and services.Netgear Orbi WiFi 6 Mesh vs Netgear Orbi WiFi 5 Mesh - New Best Mesh WiFi
Removing the application did nothing to help performance, but when I removed the drivers and services, my download went from about 25Mbps to about mbps!!! Can't thank you enough!! You're welcome, glad I could help! This SmartByte "optimizer" has turned out to be the culprit in a few other threads reporting poor WiFi performance recently. It appears to be a tool that's only offered bundled with certain Dell systems and is intended to give network bandwidth priority to "foreground" activity like browsing and Netflix, and throttle background tasks like Windows update downloads -- but obviously it's not always working as intended.
Anyhow, glad you're squared away! Thank you! This topic has been closed to new posts due to inactivity. We hope you'll join the conversation by posting to an open topic or starting a new one. Start a New Discussion. The Sonos inter-speaker links can interfere with the Orbi 5 Ghz backhaul. The Sonos mesh network Sonosnet can interfere with the Orbi 2. Move your Sonos speakers a few feet away from the Orbi. In fact, don't put anything close to any Orbi unit. If you have any Sonos device plugged into Ethernet, then Sonos will use its private mesh network--Sonosnet.
You need to manually set Sonos and Orbi to use non-overlapping channels. Set Sonos to use Channel 11 and Orbi to use Channel 1, or vice versa. What FW is currently loaded? What is the Mfr and model of the IP modem the Orbi is connected too? What Devices are you using to test wireless? What other app are you using to test wireless speeds besides Orbi App? What is the size of your home?
Why am I getting slow Internet speeds from my CBK40 Orbi cable WiFi system?
Sq Ft? What is the distance between the router and satellite s? What channels are you using? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2. Any Wifi Neighbors near by?
If so, how many? Save settings and reboot the router and satellite s. The 5GHz gives more bandwidth. Switch off Wifi and switch back on to change the band. Do you see a difference if the device is connected to the router or the satellite? Yes, make a scan to see if others in the neighbourhood are using the same channels and choose an unused channel if possible. Are you using the Router and satellites in the home?
You may have too much singal sources over lapping for this size of home. The router alone can cover up to aroud sq ft. Turn OFF the satellites for now and do some speed testing with the Orbi router alone.
In addition to channel management, please make sure you follow my other advice and do not place any other devices within a few feet of Orbi. Something is seriously wrong with your environment if you only get 17 Mbps. Your problem is not likely a setting on Orbi, as there isn't much you can change on Orbi. It's more likely something in your RF environment, or maybe an issue with your WiFi client. Try to set the Preamble Mode to Short and see if this will improve.
